Two Sentence Tuesday #7

The storm began with the staggered patter of thick raindrops on the asphalt. Before too long, the county was drowning in unrelenting tides of precipitation.

30 Day Poetry Challenge - Day Nine

Day Nine - Write a poem while doing something else.

April Showers

Sorrowful misty fogs swallow
The dreary world beyond my door
As the deluge fiercely
Blows down around us.
Pearly beads clinging tightly
To crusted, gray branches
Bend the beaten limbs down
In a hasty freedom-bid,
Falling with an abrupt splash
Into thick, murky pools below.
I sit by an unfriendly window
And watch their concentric rings;
I watch heavy water ballistics
Pepper the rumbling pane
As a cold, shivering aura
Stirs me through the glass.
I look to the unfriendly skies;
A break in the clouds
Seems a long-forgotten dream,
Yet as the sky bares gloomy teeth,
It intrigues and seduces me...
I simply must go outside.

30 Day Poetry Challenge - Day One

I need to offer a brief introduction to what is about to happen. This is the beginning of the 30 Day Poetry Challenge. Over the course of the month of April, a new poem has to be written each day... thirty days; thirty poems. Where it becomes a "Challenge" is that each day its own criteria for the poem being written. Over the next thirty days, I will be writing and posting enterprising new vistas of poetry... or dreck that I'd crudely whipped together to meet my deadline. Either way, I'm going to make you read it...and here we go.

Day 1: Write a short poem (less than 5 lines). Be sure to include at least two strong images. Don’t over think it, just do it!

Apples and Oranges

Strawberry rainclouds let loose their shimmering cascades,
Showering me in sweet honeydew lullabies;
I drift upon the saccharine ocean in a rickety banana boat
And brave the blueberry tides to find my tropical paradise.

September

September

Chilly raindrops
Pound against my window panes…
Autumn showers.

First Date

First Date
By Brandon Palzkill

Shimmering starlight twinkles
In your bright sapphire eyes
As we jet down the boulevard
In a Cadillac convertible
Top down, winds blowin’ through our
       hair,
Got your feet up on the dash,
Head tipped back,
Carefree, you beam at me
And I fall in love.

I take you to the House of Blues
Buzzing with electric neon
Red and violet and pink,
Bathing us warmly; slowly
Swaying, grinding
To the gravelly rasp of Tom Waits
Singing through the juke box.
Hold you close; hold you tight,
And you hold your breath,
While you fall in love.

Gray, overflowing clouds roll in,
Thick, glassy raindrops
Pound the asphalt, sizzling; crashing;
Chasing us beneath a park gazebo,
We wait, sitting out the storm;
Your rain-washed flesh sparkles;
I touch you… you shiver.
I taste sweet precipitation
On your lips
As we fall in love.
