Radio
on the Fritz
(Adapted from Frank
Ohara’s “Radio” http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/browse/87/6#!/20585994/0 )
Why do
you hum
such dreary music
every Saturday afternoon, when starved
mortally
tired I twitch
for a little
fix of immortal energy?
Half
week
long while ghosts
trudge fatiguingly
from alcove to
desk in Jimi’s
museum
you
spill howling
miracles of Grieg
rocking Honegger on shut-ins.
Should I
not
shut up too,
and after my
week
of work must I
deserve Prokofieff?
Damn, I have my contemptible de Kooning
to caterwaul
to. I think thrash
has an orange
rage in it, more of the ear can bleed.
