Icarus

Icarus

I
Beheld
A goddess;
An impassioned
Starlit dreamer with
Wonder in her smile
And doe-eyes shining sadly
As she stood upon trembling legs,
Heaving the world upon her shoulders.
I longed to help carry her weight
But she was the burning sun,
And drawing swiftly near,
I courted my doom
On failed wings, with
Nowhere to
Go but
Down.

Growing

Growing
By Brandon Palzkill

Spiraling, spinning helicopter seeds
Falling from the maple tree
Sinking, buried; they’ll start to grow
And soon it towers for all to see.

A Leaf on the Wind

A Leaf on the Wind
By Brandon Palzkill

A leaf plucked from the autumn tree
Tumbling downward
Twirling, swirling
Spiraling toward the grassy floor
The only place it wants to be
It reaches out to the ground
Gripping a lush green blade
And nestles itself
Amongst the grass
To spend the rest of its days
Lazing beneath the sun
In blissful tranquility.
