Song of the Forest

Song of the Forest

A tree clings to the hillside,
Completely surrounded…
Thoroughly alone.
Overwhelmed by the forest,
Swallowed and cast aside...
A product of the harsh world
And the relentless winds
Twisted and bent
Bruised and battered,
Yet it stands tall…

And lowly wretched vines
Mindlessly cling and grapple
To yank it to their level
And bury it in the dirt.
It fights to reach the stars,
To drink up the sun’s power…
Can’t be stopped; can’t bow down
To wind, abandonment,
Or jealous vines…
So, it stands tall.

Growing

Growing
By Brandon Palzkill

Spiraling, spinning helicopter seeds
Falling from the maple tree
Sinking, buried; they’ll start to grow
And soon it towers for all to see.

The Tree and the Sun

The Tree and the Sun
By Brandon Palzkill

A tree stands in a grove,
lonely; longing.
A gently blowing breeze
caresses her weathered bark,
sending shivers down
her soft, willowy spine;
making her dance, hypnotically.

The shivering tree
casts her brittle autumn leaves
upon the verdant bed, below,
and stands naked in the field,
reaching for the sun
for consummation; for warmth;
for winter’s just around the corner.

Two lovers, parted by time;
destined to be together again.
Reunited by the revitalizing spring,
the sun will bathe the tree
in his replenishing rays,
while she dances to the breeze,
in her new emerald dress.
