My Introspective Blues

My Introspective Blues
By Brandon Palzkill

Stuck between the lifeless minutes
Of ongoing triviality
I’ve found myself
In a soul-sucking situation
And lost myself
To the foreseeable future
Where I’m wading through
A whirlpool of bullshit
As it bogs me down
With an undertow of self-disrespect
That aims to drag me
Into the darkness.

My aching mind dares to wander
Beyond the detrimental hindrances
Toward the promise
Of a nova-bright tomorrow
Where everything that’s earned
My ire
Becomes a receding reflection
In my rearview mirror.

Maybe I’ll hop in my apple red ride
And race into the
Transitional sunset
Where I’ll whistle a happy tune
and raise a salutary finger
To all the assholic aggravations
that have shaped
my chaotic, malcontent
existence.

Once the minutes tick behind me,
I’m gonna go my own way
And make my own fun
And then I’ll go to Disneyland
And have a nice day.

Last Call

Last Call
By Brandon Palzkill

Waiting…

            Waiting…

Ticking seconds become minutes…

Waiting…

            Waiting…

It’s been too long, it needs to stop…

Waiting…

            Waiting…

I’m tired and this day’s dragged on...

Waiting…

            Waiting…

Hurry it up and go away…

Waiting…

            Waiting…

Ten minutes, passed; twenty minutes…

Waiting…

            Waiting…

Knock it the hell off, already…

Waiting…

            Waiting…

About damn time, you rat bastard…

Done waiting…

            Going home.

The Future Bytes

The Future Bytes
By Brandon Palzkill

Technology is the future;
hover cars, ray guns,
time machines, warp speed;
science fiction, cradled
in the palms of our hands.

Fantasies soon dissolve.
Reality takes over,
while I stare at the modern
convenience before me,
and see an evening, lost,
inconveniently.

Waiting for my world to process;
doesn’t support my file type.
Flash of blue – bad pool caller,
system not responding;
waiting, still…

Is this the way of the future?
Flawed little Tinker Toys
that seek to frustrate and confuse?
If so, I think I’d like to go
back to the stone age…
happy simplicity.
