Sunset on the Emerald Isle

Sunset on the Emerald Isle

I sat beneath a mahogany coffee table,
Wading through seas of optimistic verse
Scratched on lcd parchment with digital ink.

Longing for a smoke break (I don’t smoke),
I propelled my prose temporarily out of my
Thoughts and let my wearily eager fingers

Flutter through my Google homepage,
Where I gawked at headlines on the virtual
Newsstands, hoping for an eye-catcher

Distraction to cleanse my mental palate,
But I found a blue, pixelated jaw-dropper
To leave a Duracell aftertaste in my mouth.

Gone, you are, like a broken universe-cog;
Tooth-cracked and discarded from the whole,
While the wheels turn resolutely onward.

Steady clock ticks reverberated throughout
The empty room as I had absorbed every
Bitter drop of unwelcome news, forcing

My disconcerted mind to wander miles away,
To the quiet cascades of leafy imagination
Guidebooks stacked upon my dusty shelves.

I remembered your earthen tomes of tempered
Scribbling that painted masterful portraits
Of the lush emerald home I’d never known.

I longed to reach out and find your words,
But your books slept lazily beyond my grasp,
Oblivious to your permanent departure,

And my only form of commiseration came
There, at the mahogany coffee table,
When I dove back into my ocean of work,

To bravely shoulder your abandoned flag;
To observe the world through your eyes
And shine your influence beyond your days.

Existentialism

Existentialism

Jaded cynics
Only notice
The miniscule world.

Starry-eyed dreamers
Embrace
The infinite universe.

The Invisible Man

The Invisible Man

Going through life as a shadow,
Forever alone in the crowd,
The invisible man dared not
Lose himself to naïve hope
In fragile matters of romance.

Yet the universe intervened
And against his better judgment,
The invisible man fell in love,
Roseately offering his lucent
Heart to an entrancing goddess.

Her coffee-hued eyes sparkled
And her bubble gum smile
Left his disused soul shivering
As her sweetly scented words
Softly floated through the air.

But he had miscalculated;
Thought her the person who’d
Finally seen him through the mist,
But he was nothing, to her,
Except a phantom in the room.

The invisible man retreated
Drifting back within the shadows
Hiding again amongst the crowd
Where nobody would see him
And love could never ruin him.

Untitled

Untitled (For Now)

She sits by the windowsill,
Watching the water drops
Pool in the place
Where his footsteps last fell;
Gazing intently at memories
Drifting through cracks in the trees…

Never come home,
Oh he’ll never come home,
The tears drown her eyes
Since he left her alone;
He went off to fight in the war
Leaving more
Than his wife at the door;
Left his life on the empty shores.

Days spent…
Crying…
Lost to the dark
Of her own broken heart;
Heavy breaths;
Lightheaded groans
As she moans
“Why’d you leave me alone?”

Flips through the channels,
Looking for nothing,
Lands on the tracks
Of a slow funeral train;
Swallowed by black and by gray
On the cold, cloudy day
As she follows
The somber parade.

Walking down monochrome streets,
She is constantly greeted
With staring and pointing;
The chatter of birds;
Hears their words
And keeps walking on by
With her hands in her pockets
And face to the sky.

Nights spent…
Dying…
Grasping at chains
While they ring with his name;
Breathless sobs,
Unbearable groans
While she moans
“Please don’t leave me alone.”

“Please don’t go,”
She cries in her home, all alone…

“Please don’t go,”
She cries, all alone…

So alone…
