I’m waiting…
Sitting on a rain-drenched park bench
Watching the half-mast stars and stripes
Whipping in the wind…
I’m waiting…
Heavy gray mist cloaks the park;
A cemetery-feel to the solemn day;
Ghostly figures solidify beyond the veil,
Gathering to pay their respects…
I’m waiting…
The growing crowd waits quietly with me
To the songs of the howling leaves
While the somber celebration draws near…
I’m waiting…
To dutifully play my part in this production;
To help make the grateful voices heard;
They speak sorrowful words for the silent,
Who’d given their very last measure…
That I’d be free to sit here, waiting…
