Kaiser Soze

Kaiser Soze
By Brandon Palzkill

I believe the joke’s on me.
I heard the philosophers’ songs;
ditties about life,
sung with drunken merriment,
but they were merely
meaningless gibberish
to my inconvincible mind.

I’m weighed down
by the monkey on my back,
by my own failings
and my own insecurities;
I’m a lost soul
with no compass to guide me
‘cross the tracks
as I’m walkin’ along,
aimlessly.

Day after day,
I’m a lazy tumbled stone
deeply embedded
in a whitewashed sand garden,
with no moment of Zen
raked across the surface
to pacify my soul.

All I can hope to do
is to spin ‘round in circles,
marveling at the good night moon,
my glowing guiding star,
keeping me on my path,
on the lookout for a sign;
 for something I believe in.
