Picnic in the Park

Picnic in the Park

As lilacs shower o’er the grass,
I lie with her beneath the tree.
We watch the light of summer pass,
As lilacs shower o’er the grass.
And in her hazel eyes like glass,
I’ll lose myself eternally;
As lilacs shower o’er the grass,
I lie with her beneath the tree.

Sick

Sick

At midnight, when I close my heavy eyes,
And leave the war-torn universe behind,
I lumber lamely toward ethereal cries…
The splintered echoes screaming in my mind.

The noise, the noise… it twists me into knots,
And in the dark recesses… bloody stares,
My creaking steps, a moldy stench of rot,
A deathly shudder creeping through the air.

I see her waiting; mistress of my pain,
With mane of white and gown of ash and lace,
Her waning wisps of youthfulness remain,
While cracked, the aged mask upon her face.

And as her steely talons pierce my skin,
My heart stops while the real nightmare begins.

Time to Recharge

Time to Recharge

Timid flash of red, a somber “BING;”
A warning that I’m nearly done.
Sixteen steps lying between
Myself and electric
Blue deliverance;
Anxious to reach
It before
I Run
Out..

Spring Forward

Spring Forward

Wait for the turning point; we’ll reach it soon
And the icy fingers will lose their iron grip,
Pulling back from the pain of an invisible searing edge,
Raw and peeling… sunburnt.
The air will be thick with a fragrant blossom-haze
Intoxicating us with whimsically dizzy fantasies
Of infinitely rolling oceans of ivory clouds,
And we’ll lie upon a park bench,
Watching the floating tides break upon piercing slivers…
A million resplendent splinters of molten gold.
They’ll glisten and glitter; they’ll excite us with the warmth
Of tantalizing promise
And the unbearably cruel sting of January will fade
Into memory; a passing recollection of a harsh, gray world,
To scarcely be believed as the sun sets on July.

Bedtime Stories

Bedtime Stories

Sleeping…
Happily departed
To a breathlessly wondrous
Dreamscape.

Waking…
Dolefully incarcerated
In prosaic reality.
